Jobs and the Economy

Every American deserves a fair shot at achieving the American Dream.  Creating good jobs and getting Illinoisans back to work isn’t just in the best interest of our district, it’s in the best interest of our nation.

I introduced H.R. 3327, the Veterans Opportunity Act and H.R. 3328, the American Work Opportunity Act which put veterans and unemployed Americans back to work by offering tax credits to the businesses that hire them.

I’m fighting to make sure Second District families aren’t just able to put food on their tables, but that they’re able to thrive in a modern and expanding local economy that optimizes our investments in education, workforce training, and business growth.
My priorities include:

Attracting New Business to the Second District:
I’m working to attract more businesses to the Second District by creating and supporting policies and programs that draw highly-skilled jobs and major retailers to our region.  In order for our community to thrive, we need a local economy and skilled workforce  that can meet  the demands of the global community.

Promoting Small Business Growth:
As the daughter of a small business owner, I know the challenges entrepreneurs face in starting up and expanding their businesses.  Small business is the engine that drives our economy, and I’m committed to empowering our local entrepreneurs to start the new businesses that create the jobs our  communities need to  grow and succeed.

Investing in Education and Re-training:
Anyone who wants to work should have the resources to sharpen their skills and embark on a new career.  Career education and re-training play a major role in helping job seekers expand their skill base. I support federal programs that help Illinoisans develop new skills so that they are more prepared for the careers of tomorrow.

Investing in Our State and National Transportation Infrastructure:
I support projects like the Illiana Expressway and the South Suburban Airport, which will attract the much-needed jobs and new businesses that will boost the local Second District economy.

Making Sure our Veterans Have Employment Opportunities When They Retire:
No one should fight for us overseas only to have to fight for a job here at home.  The men and women who serve this country are highly trained with the unique skill sets and leadership skills that are attractive to potential employers. I support expanding federal programs that help veterans find employment and that assist them in transitioning back into civilian life.
